We usually think of dopamine as pleasure, but it also plays a major role in learning what behaviors are worth repeating.
If I spend hours doing nothing, scrolling, eating sweets, and getting little hits of comfort, my brain is still learning from that experience.
The behavior might not be helping me, but the reward is reinforcing it.
That helped me understand something about changing my life: I can’t keep rewarding the behaviors I say I want to change.
Every time I follow through, do something uncomfortable, keep a promise to myself, or make a healthier choice, I’m giving my brain a different lesson.
What I consistently reward becomes easier to repeat.
So the question becomes: What am I teaching myself to do again tomorrow?
